Verda Alberta Cash, age 91, of Centerville, formerly of Albia passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour after a long battle with leukemia. Verda was born August 8, 1920 in Lucas County to Leslie and Beulah (Peterson) Larrington. She married Andrew Walberg in 1940. She later married William Keith Cash in 1974 Verda graduated from Chariton High School in 1938 with a degree in Normal Training and later graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She was an active member in 4-H Club and later served as 4-H leader. She taught country school in Lucas County. In 1954 Verda moved to Albia with her two children, Jean and Gary. She worked for Rural Eclectic Coop and later owned and operated the first Mode-O-Day dress shop in Albia. After selling the dress shop, she went to work for Iowa Southern Utilities for six years. Verda retired in 1974 but continued to work part-time for Peoples National Bank, Albia Auto Supply and her husband's law firm, Cash Law Firm. er-in-law, Gary and Roberta Walberg. Verda is survived by her son Gary Walberg (wife Roberta) of Centerville, six grandchildren: Joni Halford (husband Dennis) of Kaufman, TX, Michael L. Murphy of Ankeny, Mark Murphy (wife Kim) of Albia, Jennifer Sinclair (husband Mike) of Greenwood, IN, Scott Walberg (wife Tinna) of Des Moines, and Todd Walberg of Cedar Rapids, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Beverly Shannon of Odessa, TX and Barbara Hiserodt (husband Donald) of Prescott, AZ, two brothers, Verland Larrington (wife Jessie) of Chariton and Wendall Larrington (wife Lorraine) of Chariton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia with Larry Bettis officiating. Burial will follow in Oak View Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-8 pm at Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia.
